Melissa Malik, enrollment specialist for UL ��˾�������� Online, is among the dedicated faculty and staff supporting online students. As an enrollment specialist, Mel supports online students from application to graduation, helping them make informed decisions and ensuring a seamless transition into the University's online learning environment.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Mel: What I enjoy most about my role as is being able to guide students through one of the most important decisions of their lives. I find it incredibly rewarding to help prospective students gain confidence, overcome obstacles, and take that first step toward achieving their academic and career goals. I also enjoy the personal connections I build through each conversation, as well as the satisfaction of seeing a student’s journey come full circle from inquiry to enrollment. The role keeps me engaged and motivated because it combines relationship-building, problem-solving, and goal-oriented work in a way that truly makes a difference.

What advice would you give to a student in their first semester of an online program?

Mel: Stay organized with a set schedule, communicate regularly with your instructors and classmates, and make use of all available resources. Set small goals, celebrate your progress, and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it. Adjusting takes time — be patient with yourself and stay focused on why you started.

What is the most common question you get from online students?

Mel: "Can I work full time and still be successful in online courses?" 

Usually, I'd respond by saying, "I totally understand how you feel — balancing online classes with a full-time job can seem tough at first! The good news is that our online programs are designed for working adults. You’ll have flexibility to complete coursework on your own schedule. I recommend setting a weekly routine, planning study times in advance, and staying in touch with your instructors. And don’t forget — we have plenty of support resources if you ever need help staying organized or managing time. You’ve got this, and we’ll be here to support you along the way.”

What is your favorite restaurant & thing to do in ��˾��������?

Mel: My favorite restaurant in ��˾�������� is Acadian Superette, and I love listening to live music.
