Airfare is not included in the program cost and must be purchased by the student. Other personal expenses include passport and visa costs, eating out, shopping, and entertainment.

This course will uncover how modern movies, their stories, structure, and characters, are direct descendants of ancient Greek tragedy and Greek mythology.

We will attend Greek plays in ancient outdoor amphitheatres such as Larissa and Epidaurus, and also live theatre performances at the International Forest Festival in Thessaloniki. 
We will see traditional dances at the iconic Dora Stratou theatre in Athens. For a deeper dive into Greek cinema, we will visit the Cinematheque and film museum in Thessaloniki along with the Film School in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. 
We will punctuate the trip from Thessaloniki to Athens with legendary locations of Greek mythology such as Mount Olympus, Delphi (the Oracle) and the Acropolis. 

The class will study how location shapes a story and becomes a unique part of the narrative, and sometimes even a character. Students will learn how to base a story in a location of Ancient Greece, and to craft a scene using elements present in the areas we explore. Students will learn story structure, production design, and various visual styles of storytelling.

We will visit and stay in the cities of Thessaloniki in the north and Athens in the south.

We will attend live theatre in the Forest Theatre of Thessaloniki, and visit ancient theatres of Larissa and Epidaurus. We will attend the live folklore dances at Dora Stratou in Athens.

On the way from Thessaloniki to Athens, we will visit the Caves of Petralona, Mount Olympus, and the sanctuary of Delphi. We will naturally visit the Acropolis and its museum in Athens.
 

This course is an introduction to the origin of earth materials, structures, and landforms. The goal of this course is to provide students with a basic understanding of geology and its processes. Since Greece is the most geologically active area of Europe and thus a natural laboratory of geologic processes, you will be able to connect theory with hands-on experience.

The most important component of this course is the field trip from Thessaloniki, to Halkidiki (the birthplace of Aristotle), through Thessaly, to Athens and the Peloponnese. Along the way, we will see the metamorphic bedrock of Thessaloniki, the oceanic rocks of Halkidiki, the tectonic window of Mount Olympus, and the metasedimentary rocks of Athens. We will also stop at archaeological sites such as Delphi (the Oracle) and several ancient theaters, including the iconic theater of Epidaurus. You will also be immersed in Greek culture by visiting local exhibitions and live music and dance performances.

Ever wondered whether there is any truth behind Greek myths? After taking this course, you will know the answer! Mythology contains surprisingly accurate descriptions of catastrophic natural phenomena such as volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, and the unearthing of strange animal bones. The study of these myths in light of geologic phenomena gave birth to geomythology.

In this course, you will be introduced to Greek myths about the creation of the world (Cosmogony), the creation of the gods (Theogony), the Twelve Labors of Hercules, as well as locations from Homer's Iliad and Odyssey.

The course will culminate with visits to legendary locations such as Halkidiki, where the battle of the Titans took place (Gigantomachy); Mount Olympus, home of the gods' palace; and Nemea, where Hercules fought the Nemean Lion. We will also stop at archaeological sites such as Delphi (the Oracle) and several ancient theaters, including the iconic theater of Epidaurus. You will also be immersed in Greek culture by visiting local exhibitions and live music and dance performances.
